Alabama Signees Adonis Thomas, Damien Harris Vow To “Bring The Dynasty Back” On Twitter

first_imgA top Alabama Crimson Tide signee.Alabama football certainly is not down – the Crimson Tide were the No. 1 seed in this past year’s College Football Playoff before losing to Ohio State. But the program has gone two years without winning the national title, so it’s fair to say that Alabama is no longer a “dynasty” in the true sense of the word. Two Crimson Tide signees are looking to change that fact.Adonis Thomas and Damien Harris – two of the highest-rated recruits in the country this past year – had a nice little Twitter exchange Saturday morning. It began with Harris wishing Thomas a happy birthday, and quickly morphed into the topic of winning rings and bringing the dynasty back. Adam Schefter Is Getting Crushed For Interviewing Greg Hardy, What He’s Said About It

first_imgAdam Schefter talks about his interview with Greg hardy.SchefterAdam Schefter recently had a sit-down interview with Greg Hardy. The interview (in parts and in full) has been shown across ESPN’s platforms today. You can view some of the interview here. In the interview, Hardy, who is currently unsigned after playing for the Dallas Cowboys in 2015, says he has never hit a woman. Hardy was referencing the 2014 incident with his former girlfriend in which he allegedly hit her multiple times, causing what appeared to be significant injuries. The former Carolina Panther was charged and convicted, but the case was thrown out in 2015 after Hardy appealed. “I’ve never put my hand on any woman,” Hardy says.Schefter appeared on The Dan Patrick Show this morning to discuss the interview. A transcript of some of what Schefter said: Schefter: What he meant by that was he feels like he should not have put himself in that situation around that woman at that time of night around alcohol, and that was his mistake he should never have done that. But in his mind he swears he never put a finger on this woman. And people can believe what they want.Patrick: Do you believe it?Schefter: Doesn’t matter what I believe Dan, right?—–Schefter: I went in with the idea that this guy is a monster. I came out of there with a very different feeling. I came out of there feeling this is a guy who has managed to say the wrong things at the wrong time.Schefter is now getting crushed for what he’s said about Hardy and for interviewing him. One of his colleagues, Michelle Beadle, even criticized him on-air on ESPN for giving the NFL defensive lineman a platform. For the love of f&[email protected] Dude doesn’t admit to wrongdoing. New Wynn Resorts CEO denies knowing of claims against mogul

first_imgLAS VEGAS, Nev. – The new CEO of Las Vegas-based Wynn Resorts said he was not aware of any of the sexual misconduct accusations against casino mogul Steve Wynn before they surfaced last month.Matt Maddox, who was appointed CEO on Feb. 6 after Wynn resigned, said in an interview Monday that people should “hold off making any judgment until the investigations into the accusations are complete.”Wynn Resorts is facing scrutiny by gambling regulators in Nevada and Massachusetts, where the company is building a roughly $2.4 billion casino just outside Boston. Regulators in Macau, the Chinese enclave where the company operates two casinos, also are inquiring about the accusations.Wynn has vehemently denied the misconduct accusations and attributed them to a campaign led by his ex-wife. An attorney for Elaine Wynn has denied that she instigated a report in the Wall Street Journal detailing the allegations. The newspaper reported last month that a number of women said Steve Wynn harassed or assaulted them and that one case led to a $7.5 million settlement.Wynn Resorts has created a committee to investigate the allegations and review the company’s internal policies and procedures to ensure a “safe and respectful workplace for all employees.”Maddox, who does not sit on the board of directors, said he would leave it up to lawyers and investigators to decide whether the findings of the investigation should be made public. Many describe Wynn as the father of modern-day Las Vegas, and by the company’s own admission, his knowledge was crucial for its success. So much so, the company recently told regulators that the “business may be significantly impaired” if it lost Wynn’s services. But Maddox said Wynn Resorts is positioned to move forward without its founder and develop a number of projects in part because two longtime executives responsible for design and architecture remain with the company. He also is putting together an “innovation advisory team” to provide input.“The idea is that our future projects are going to continue to be leading in innovation and creativity,” Maddox told The Associated Press at the employee dining hall of the Wynn Las Vegas casino-resort. “We are continuing to move forward as fast as we can.”The company closed its golf course in Las Vegas last year as a step toward the development of a lake and hotel project called Paradise Park. Last month, it bought a 38-acre site along the Las Vegas Strip that Wynn, before resigning, said would be developed into a roughly 2,000-room hotel.Maddox said the company will pursue both projects and the possibility of obtaining a license for a casino in Japan, where lawmakers approved a long-awaited law late last year on “integrated resorts,” the first major hurdle in allowing casinos to open. Further legislation is expected to take several more years.Maddox, 42, is one of Wynn Resorts’ first employees. He joined the company when Wynn founded it in 2002, two years after the mogul sold the business that built the Bellagio, Mirage and Treasure Island resorts.Initially, he spent the majority of his time raising the money to build the Wynn Las Vegas casino-resort. He later worked in Macau before returning to Sin City in 2006. He led the company through the Great Recession as the chief financial officer and became its president in 2013.Maddox said the company’s board of directors had been developing a succession plan for roughly four years, and Wynn’s resignation simply accelerated its implementation.“They, along with Steve, decided to make me the president of Wynn Resorts with the idea that eventually, assuming things continue to work well, I would become the CEO,” he said.He said the company will keep its name and logo, which is Wynn’s signature.“Wynn is about the 25,000 people who work here,” he said. “The name stands for quality. It stands for service. And it’s something that all of these 25,000 people look up to.”Maddox defended the company as gender inclusive, citing that 40 per cent of management are women, but wants the number to increase. He has established a new leadership initiative with an immediate goal of looking at gender inequality and instituted a six-week paid parental leave policy and merit-based scholarship fund.“I’m going around in the town halls explaining not only is the company stable, it’s strong. So, all of you are safe,” he said. “We are going to keep executing what we do. And I’m pointing out at each town hall that this is a zero-tolerance company.”___Follow Regina Garcia Cano on Twitter at https://twitter.com/reginagarciakNO .last_img read more

The loonie had started the day lower following a speech by Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz Thursday but gained throughout the day.The higher oil price likely helped boost the loonie Thursday, said Chopra.“Certainly the strength of the oil price is playing into it. When you’re looking at explaining daily moves, it’s certainly an important factor in what’s happening today.”He said the Poloz speech did little to give any indication of whether a rate hike is coming July 11, leaving uncertainty on the decision. The August gold contract closed down $5.10 at US$1,251 an ounce and the September copper contract was down four cents at US$2.97 a pound. The August natural gas contract was down four cents at US$2.94 per mmBTU.last_img read more

Spurs survive 7goal drama win on away goals

first_imgManchester: Fernando Llorente’s goal, bundled in from a corner and confirmed by VAR 17 minutes from time, gave Mauricio Pochettino’s side victory on away goals on a night of tension, attacking quality and defensive frailty that ended City and Pep Guardiola’s quest for a historic quadruple of Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup. In a game of relentless drama, City even thought they had won it in injury time only for Raheem Sterling’s goal to be ruled out for offside by VAR. Spurs were protecting a 1-0 lead from the first leg but an opening 21 minutes of chaotic brilliance saw City lead 3-2 on the night as both teams exchanged goals at will. Sterling lit the blue touchpaper on a thunderous atmosphere when he curled in a precision finish from the edge of the area after only four minutes, but Spurs responded with a double from Son Heung-min as he took advantage of errors by Aymeric Laporte. Bernardo Silva put City level on the night with a shot that deflected past Hugo Lloris, then Sterling arrived on the end of the outstanding Kevin de Bruyne’s cross to score at the far post. It left City effectively needing to win the second half and they looked on course when Sergio Aguero crashed home their fourth after De Bruyne sliced Spurs open before Llorente, on as a first-half substitute for injured Moussa Sissoko, bundled in from a corner via his hip — the goal given after a VAR check for handball. In one last extraordinary twist, City thought they had snatched victory and Sterling a hat-trick, but emotions switched instantly as VAR had the final word once again, ruling that Aguero was in an offside position as Bernardo Silva diverted the ball into his path. Spurs go on to face Ajax at the end of unforgettable encounter that left everyone involved stunned and breathless. For Spurs, this was the rollercoaster night to top them all, their players and coaching staff dragged through every possible emotion before joining their supporters in joyous celebration at the final whistle. After such a bright start, Pochettino’s side struggled to weather a City storm that culminated with Aguero putting them ahead in the tie, before Llorente’s goal renewed hope once more. They then had to deal with the gut-punch of Sterling’s stoppage-time goal, only to be hit by a wave of relief and joy at VAR’s final decisive intervention. This was all done without striker and talisman Harry Kane, but once again Son rose to the responsibility, the classy South Korean typifying their bold approach with his superb movement and those two vital early goals. Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris — rightly criticised after his mistake gifted Liverpool victory at Anfield recently — also deserves huge praise after his penalty save from Aguero in the first leg and crucial stops from the Argentine and De Bruyne in the return. This was a Spurs side, it should be remembered, who needed a draw in Barcelona to reach the group stage after a damaging defeat at Inter Milan and draw at PSV Eindhoven. It is a tribute to the resilience of this squad — and Pochettino’s management of his resources — that they not only achieved that but now stand two games away from their first Champions League final. They survived an all-out assault from City to achieve it. How they deserved those celebrations.last_img read more
