Kolkata: The Rabindra Bharati University (RBU) is taking a slew of measures to make its students fit for the job market. Efforts for creating a repertoire of music and compulsory internship for the students are on the priority list of the university in the days to come.”We have already introduced drama repertoire some years back. Now, we are going to do the same with music,” Sabyasachi Basu Ray Chaudhury, Vice-Chancellor of RBU said.”A group of students will be selected by an expert panel and they will be trained in a music studio environment so that they have a real life experience. We have done the same in drama and performances of students have been widely appreciated,” a senior RBU official said. Talking about placement, the V-C said in pass outs in visual arts from RBU has been hired by leading IT companies across the state.”Now, we are working upon arranging internship of our students in the post graduate-level in subjects like Economics and Political Science. For example, in Economics, we are planning to approach banks, stock exchange etc for allowing tour students to do internship. They will also award a certificate to the students as an acknowledgment for their work. This will not only arouse interest among students but also increase their chance of employability as they will be having real work experience,” Basu Ray Chaudhury said. The Guest in Chief for the event will be Prof Furqan Qamar, Secretary General Association of Indian Universities who will be delivering the convocation address.
