Level pegging in Manning Group J

first_imgThe battle for the Group J semi-final spot in the ISSA-FLOW Manning Cup second round is going down to the wire following results of matches played yesterday at the Constant Spring Complex in St Andrew. In the first game of the double-header, St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) and Bridgeport High battled to a 1-1 draw. Napoleon Rochester sent STATHS ahead in the fifth minute but Kyle Ming equalised for Bridgeport in the 88th minute. In the second game, Kingston College (KC) and Charlie Smith finished 1-1. KC went ahead courtesy of a strike by captain Javain Brown in the 42nd minute. That was cancelled by a header from Charlie Smith’s towering defender Romario Williams in the 49th minute. With both results, all four teams in the group are locked on two points apiece as well as having a similar goal difference. In the group’s first set of games last week Wednesday, KC were held 1-1 by STATHS, and it was the same scoreline in the Bridgeport and Charlie Smith game. CHANCE TO FINISH Now, all four teams have a chance to finish on top in the group’s last set of games to be played next week at the same time at different venues. Coach of Charlie Smith, Jerome Waite, said it was a good game from both teams. He also credited his goalkeeper Shamarley Clayton for keeping them in the game. “It was a good game from the teams. The ‘keeper (Shamarley Clayton) was outstanding. We will take it one step at a time as we look forward to the next game,” Waite told The Gleaner. KC’s coach Ludlow Bernard said that his team created enough chances to win the game. “We got the chances to win the game. Now, it is not totally in our own hands but we have all to play for a win in the next game,” Bernard said. Meanwhile, the first game was also an exciting affair with STATHS taking an early lead and Bridgeport fighting back and earning the equaliser with just two minutes to go in normal time.
